schematic help.

I'm new to all this and am still learning how to read schematics. Could someone help me with this switch box schematic:

Image

I understand that the sp-r, sp-l, a1-r, a1-r, a2-r, a2-l run into a dpdt relay. Does the relay get connected to anything else?

What are k1 and k2?

the DC in would be a battery, right? Could the schematic be changed to use AC (ie plug into the wall)? Could this schematic be adapted to be used without power?

What about the grounds... why are they just floating there?

Thanks.
john.

Hi John ...

The K1 and K2 are the coils of two relays. When you throw the
switch, power is applied to the coils, and the relays make the
switches move.

You could use AC relays, or in fact, you could replace the
two relays with one DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw)
relay ... or ... do aways with the relays and power and
just use a simple DPDT toggle switch from Radio Shack.
No power, just a switch.
