Chokes Designed for Choke Input PSU's

Does anyone have any good recommendations? I'm looking to build an amp with approximately 150-170mA draw (four 6V6-types).. I've used Hammonds in all my amps and have found that they tend to make the chassis ring, or buzz loudly, etc etc.

Hi,

If you can find old Stancor's, they're pretty quiet. Old TV's used to have them in the 5H range and about that current, but they're rarer than hen's teeth now.

*kicks himself for the HUNDREDS of chassis junked when a TV tech*

Fleabay?

Cheers!

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

Mike's N-1 Rule: When looking for N number of components to finish a job, you have a 95% chance of only finding N-1 of them.

Have you tried using this thing in choke-input? I'm having trouble seeing any kind of gap in the core...

Chokes designed for choke input from a rectifier are pretty thin on the ground these days. I don't think the Hammonds are designed that way, probably why they protest under direct load from a rectifier.

I know Sowter makes the right design, but you won't like their prices!! Top quality, but mfd. on a pound sterling cost basis.

I don't know for sure if these are suitable, but One-Electron (John Atwood) makes a 6 lb. choke with two identical windings, the PRC-1, designed as a plate retard choke for SE operation. In parallel, it is 5.5H, 230 mA, only 32 ohms and has to be rated 600VDC or better. $59.95 at Antique Electronics. The PRC-2 wired in parallel will give you 12H, 150mA, 76 ohms. www.one-electron.com. I have used them but not in a choke feed aplication.
