Well, not exactly, but take one mini-mag flashlight, the laser from a DVD writer and modify a red LED module, and you can have a 1/4 watt red "burning" laser.

All the usual precautions and caveats apply...

And, remember:

DO NOT LOOK INTO LASER WITH REMAINING EYE!

One of my friends worked for NBC TV in New York,
they were testing a new laser audio/video link from
30 Rockefeller Plaza to the Empire State Building.

He didn't think it was working right, so ... yeah - he
looked into the business end of the laser.

When he was telling me about it ... I said
"What are you stupid !" and his reply was ...
"hmmm - the eye doctor said the same thing"

It is loaded with ads, spam, popups etc, just take the usual precautions...

We have a "popper -stopper" here, so most of that crapppola doesn't get through.

One of the guys at NNETG sent it to me...

Now I have a potential use for those two dead DVD R/Ws that I have in the lab junk box :o

FWIW, if one were to disembowel a green laser pointer, there is a half watt (or greater power) IR laser diode lurking inside. The IR light gets "upconverted" to green, by passing through two crystals, which halve the IR wavelength from 1050 nM to 525 nM, and use up about 99% of the IR light energy, in the process.

Cheaply or improperly made green laser pointers can have a LOT of invisible IR power emission, so be careful...
