Newbie to HiFI

So I am coming from the world of Guitar amps and pedal building. I have 3 guitar amps under my wing(Allenamp5F+, Sluckey AC15 and a Sluckey revibe) I am also in the middle of my 4th, a Hoffman Stout. I just bought the Budgie SE board and I am stoked about building it. I would love any Input and hope to build soon. I will probably go with Edcor trannys set since I am not pressed for time I can wait for a set from them, or If there are Hammond #s, I can get those for free ;) I have a Pioneer VCX-D814 that I run now But just got a 1977 Onkyo TX-4500 from my brother that I just started cleaning up and sounds incredible. I have my Fathers Technics 1900 turntable and a art pre amp for the turntable. ImageImage

Nice - so what are you looking to build ? What speakers do you intend on using ?

I am going to start off with the Budgie build first, seems straight forward and simple enough. Next build after that will be a push/pull. As for speakers I'm running 4 old school Infinity's that I've repaired over the years. I would like to build a small to medium sized pair and put them on stands eventually. I don't have the manual to build yet but I am hoping I can use a Hammond 290cax on this build since I have a spare one. I have one in a 18watt Marshall build I'm doing but it looks like it has to much voltage for this

I used a similar Hammond 290CX power transformer in my 6AV5GA SE amp build, it produces about 400VDC under a 90-100 mA load,
which would be excessive for the EL84s in the Budgie SE build, which normally operates with B+ voltage around 325VDC.
The 290CAX would be more suitable for use in a Class AB1 EL84 / 6P14P-EV, or 6L6GC push pull single channel amp.

The larger 290CX has a B+current rating of 180 mA, and the 6.3VAC filament has a current rating o\f 4 Amps.

Thanks, I did the research earlier and seen that. I will hold that Tranny for the next big build. I just ordered the Edcor PT and OT's, For all great reviews they are geeting I am stoked that it only cost me 107 with shipping.
