New Budgie SE

I took advantage of a being indoors with the cold weather we are having in the NE and finished up my Budgie SE.
I intend to bring this into the office to use with my AKG K702's and occasionally with some desktop speakers.
Worked first time, no issues.
The chassis took some head scratching but in the end it worked.
I didnt intend to paint the chassis. I was in a hurry to order the chassis and mistakenly ordered the grey instead
of the black. I copied the color scheme from my Tivoli Model One.

Thanks again Shannon for another great product. I am torn between the Arduino preamp and the GSG as my
next project. I have been enjoying my Stereo 35 for quite a few years now.

Does anyone have any suggestions for desktop speakers?
I tried some RS Minimus 7's The size is perfect but they sound pretty bad even with the Zilch Xover upgrade.

Also, Does anyone have a solution for being able to switch out the speakers when in headphone mode?

Steve

Looks beautiful - very nice work. I do intend to clean up the docs for the Budgie SE in 2014. I love that 'lil amp. ;)

Would these speakers be too big? http://www.parts-express.com/overnight- ... r--300-706

You can use a DPDT toggle switch for a headphone/speaker switch. You'd want one with big solder lugs probably.

Thanks for the speaker recommendation. I'll do some measuring tomorrow.
They certainly get good reviews.

Hi All,
I use my Budgie SE with Overnight Sensations - I really love the combo... I highly recommend.

I will try the loud speaker forums for speaker suggestions on the ST-35 I am close to finishing. I need something with more bass- looking for something like a DIY A-25 with Asian parts. I want to keep the speaker (drivers) budget around $150. Anyone know of a 2-way with a 7" to 10" woofer in this range?
Thanks,
Mark

The OS is a very goof speaker, but the sensitivity is fairly low:

Specifications:
• Tweeter: Dayton Audio ND20FA-6 3/4" silk dome tweeter
• Midbass woofer: HiVi B4N aluminum midbass woofer
• Power handling: 25 watts RMS/50 watts max
• Frequency response: 45-20,000 Hz (-3 dB)
• Impedance: 8 ohms
• Sensitivity: 83 dB 1W/1m
• Dimensions: 9" H x 6" W x 8-3/8" D

HI All,
You are correct about the OS. You are also correct about the Fostex -which I also have and love.
I actual switched to the OS because when I built my Budgie SE I used a good 100k Step pot and I couldn't get the volume low enough with the FOSTEX!
You really can't beat the price of the OS and it can get plenty loud with Budgie SE which will distort before you hit max volume. If you choose the OS my only tip would be to experiment with the amount of batting you install- It seems like I used more batting than suggested.
Best Regards!

I have really been enjoying the amp this week in the office. Sounds great with my headphones.
I will probably give the OS's a try. I don't need lots of volume where I will be using it.

Heres where I purchased the knob:

Ordered above knob in black, will go nicely with black Transcendar and Hammond transformers. Have already got Alps pot with 6 mm shaft. Thinking about Mercedes Benz Designo Tri-Coat (Metallic Pearl White) for the chassis with varnished jarrah sides but no firm decision yet on wood / color.
