I'm happy with how the top plates came out. Sorry for the overly contrasty pix. I'll try and get a nice in situ shot tonight. [:)

I agree, that's beautiful! The bottom is just a standard Hammond box flipped upside down?

Right, Terry. It uses the 10x6x2 black one, part# 1441-16BK3CWW. You can even skip the walnut end pieces and get a cheapo 1441 chassis without the walnut for around $12 and drop it into a simple wood picture frame. Obviously you can skip the wood altogether.

You attach the top plate to the chassis with four #6 1/2" sheet metal screws, and then tap center holes for the other four holes with a nail and hammer. You can then drill out those four holes (after removing the top plate) with a standard 3/8" corded drill. The only other machining is two more screw holes for the choke in the bottom of the chassis. Otherwise I've tried to make it as simple as DIY can get.

Nice stuff, really!
The transformers look cool and pretty small. Where are those coming from?

Those are Edcors - I repainted the bells with some black spray paint. I had flat black handy at the time, but I think satin would be nicer. It's configured for the Edcor XPWR136-120 for the power transformer and two Edcor GXSE10-8-5K as the outputs. Those are just under $100 shipped.

Shannon it looks GREAT! I am excited, I plan on making this my 1s build. How soon can I order the board?

I had intended to start selling this weekend, but it looks like I need one more week to get all the BOMs sorted out. I'm double-checking all the screw lengths, parts lists, schematics, etc. Always takes much longer than I plan.

That probably should be Edcor XPWR136-120,and not XPWR128-120, for the power trannie.

Hi Ray,

The old top plate was 9.90" by 5.90" with square corners. The new top plate will be 10.827" by 6.89" with rounded corners.

If it makes it easier, I do have a couple old style top plates that I had planned to build into units, but now will scuttle because of the new design. Maybe I should just ship one of those to you (with the main pcb)? I already have a few connectors mounted (speaker binding posts, RCAs and power switch) - I'll throw those in for free. ;) If that sounds good, I can mail it all out tomorrow.

I can even sell you a set of the Edcors, too.

Thanks for asking, Ray, but I don't at this time. Better get that Edcor order in before the Xmas rush! ;)

My Budgie board should be in my mailbox when I get home (y) My question with your top plate is you have the PT and OT's winding in same orientation, shouldnt they be rotated?
