Hi all,
I'm getting ready to embark on a pair of Eye Clones and was wondering which tube to use. I am leaning towards the 6SL7. My goal is the best range and sound quality. Any thought on this or is this a personal preference matter? I listen to straight ahead jazz and classic rock deep track and obscure stuff, and occasional classical when in the mood. I like both, but I love 6SL7 more.

Yea, I thought a bigger tube with bigger plate surface would be a better choice and that is what I will probably use.

They are electrically and sonically quite different.

The 6SL7 is identical to the miniature 5751. The 12AX7 has no equivalent octal.

6SL7 has slightly less gain and less noise like the 7551 . will be using 6sl7 in mine

That why I use 6SL7, so I can turn up more vol. on the preamp.
