6L6GC in the Eiclone?

Is it possible to use the 6L6CG in the Eiclone; if they will work, what do I have to change in the EL34 version.

Hi Lee,

Plug and play - nothing needs changed except the need to adjust the bias.

The bias voltage range is flexible enough to go lower for the 6L6GCs (and KT88s). You will want to lower the bias first; maybe to -55V as measured at pin 5. This is in order that you don't have a runaway tube when switching from EL34s to the 6L6GCs due to the different biasing.

The grid resistors are 100K, so you are OK there, too.

I assume pin 1 is just floating and unconnected in 6L6GCs, with G3 internally connected, whereas we strap pins 1 and 2 on the EL34. This doesn't need changed, either.

Hi Shannon,

Had 4 new JJ 6L6GC sitting on the shelf, do not know where they came from, or what project they were for, just thought I would give them a try.

Anyone using or has anyone tried this tube, and if so what is your opinion of the sound vs the EL34.

Cordially,

Hi Lee,

I went to try a pair of RCA 6L6GC black plates I have this morning, but one of them was dead - not frosted, but zilch current draw. Argh! I had bought them for $1 each at a junk store a few years ago and had never tested them. The good one biased up at -42V @ 50mA.
