Sonics of the Eiclone vs the MKIII

Postby highflyin9 » Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:50 pm

Has anyone heard both the Eiclone and a Dynaco MKIII? I'm curious if there's much of a difference in audio quality between the two units. If you have an opinion, it would also be great to know which board was in the MKIII (Triode / Poseidon / etc.). TIA!

I have both and listened and compared them with the same audio components and music.

The MKIII's currently have the Diytube Poseidon boards in them with upgraded parts. In other words, I didn't follow the BOM and used high quality film and foil caps, etc. The Eiclones are RevB with all octal front end. See my posts for details.

IMHO, the Ikes sound much better than the MKIII's in every category. They have become my referecne amps that I compare everything else against. If you are building an amp from scratch, the Ikes are the far better choice. They will stack up against any of the commercial stuff out there.
