what/how to add a didgital volt meter for setting bias on ieclone.
need info on how to do it. and what perts to use.
wich way to orient [the AuriCap] red/black leads on p/c bd.
i know not everything.
thank you

Hi Audioray,

Could you ask this one again? I'm not sure what you mean.

Here's another post regarding the AuriCaps (black in, red out):

So the black lead will be pointing towards the power supply electrolytics on the Eiclones.

on some amplifiers there are didgital LED to set bias of the tubes
i think thats what it does. antique soud labs has them

to make it more clear what i am trying to do, is to add Bias meters to
the EICLONES. OR should i just use my multimeter.

Bias meters?

Postby TerrySmith » Sun Aug 15, 2004 11:57 am

That does sound like a good idea. I would try to find a 0-1 volt meter, since your bias will be .5v per tube using EL34's. Then, get a spdt switch at rat-shack (if they still sell them! :cussing: ) so you can select the tube you want to bias. :shockingzap:

All you need to do is connect a wire from each bias test point to the outer legs of the SPDT switch. Then connect a wire from the center leg to the + side of the meter, the - side goes to ground.

KT-88's need more current, 60 - 70 ma each, so the meter will read .6 or .7 volt. A meter that reads 0 - 1 volt will work for all output tubes that you may use.

black in, red out

Postby EWBrown » Sun Aug 15, 2004 5:43 pm

On the Auricaps, the red lead should go to the grid of the output tubes (KT88 in this case). The black lead is the outer foil, the red lead is the inner foil. This allows for a little extra shielding, and may reduce any residual noise. Otherwise, the caps are not polarised as in an electrolytic.

auricaps

Postby audioray » Tue Aug 17, 2004 2:53 pm

of all the photos i have seen of the eiclones no one uses the auricaps.
is it because of cost or no sonic advantage.

Solen Fast CAps

Postby EWBrown » Wed Aug 18, 2004 5:08 am

On my ike boards, I used Solen FastCAps, which are a great bargain for the cost. I've also used Solens on one of my earlier Rev B units and they sound great, I think only a truly "golden ear" could tell the subtle differences.

Looking around, it looks like the 0-100mA meters are your best bet. In Mouser, and Marlin P Jones has them for $13. You could have one per monoblock with a three way switch to set the bias. I've never used a current meter before so I can't give the best hookup info. For example, are these typically in-circuit or use a sense resistor?
