Ike 2009 Build

Postby TomMcNally » Sat Mar 14, 2009 6:03 pm

I bought a pair of Eiclone rev B boards from TerrySmith, and built
them up over the last couple of days. I used the 6SL7 instead of
a 12AX7, pre-painted Hammond 16x8x2 chassis, and a big Hammond
193L 5 hy choke. My tubes didn't come yet, so I used what I
had on hand ... a pair of NOS Cunningham 6SL7's of undertermined
age, a pair of Russian 6SN7 equivs I got from Ned a while back,
and I robbed a quad of Valve Art EL-34's from my ST-70.

So far so good ... I'll put the new Winged-C's that are coming
from Triode in on Monday and re-bias it.

Now wait a minute, didn't Terry post these boards up for sale only a few days ago? Wow, that was fast! Great looking amps! I might try point-to-point wiring these someday. Min

Really nice looking amps, Tom. I had my heart set on a pair of Ikes a while ago, but ended up going down the Mk3 path instead.
"It's a different experience; the noise occlusion, crisp, clear sound, and defined powerful bass. Strong bass does not corrupt the higher frequencies, giving a very different overall feel of the sound, one that is, in my opinion, quite unique."

Hi Min -

Yeah it was a fast turnaround. I still stuck by the cardinal rule
and didn't drill any holes until all of the parts were on hand.

These amps KICK !

VERY NICE! Glad to see them finished! I also like the Winged C EL34's, although they take a while to break in.

You can also try 6550 and KT88 tubes as well.
