!!Done!! and I love it...

sweet & juicy SE amp for 1626 Darlings and the 6L6 family

!!Done!! and I love it...

Postby ttroglodita » Fri Dec 27, 2013 5:57 pm

After a few experiments with PSU, coupling capacitors etc and especially reading and learning in this forum my clementine has born today 27-dic-2013.
When I start this project I cannot imagine the incredible sound that was inside.
My favorite music is jazz and classic and this amp covers more than all expectations.
Bass and treble are incredible, especially treble, but the best is silence, silence only silence until the music starts. !!NO ANY HUM!!
And most importantly at a very reasonable price.
Any of these amps could sell in a shop for $ 1,000, no in Spain, here the valves do not have much success people just want more watts and watts. For me 0,7 W is more enough.
Thanks to all the members of this forum have taught me since.

I am loooking for an Inrush limiter but cl-90 is impossible in Spain, I found cl-130 on ebay
Could it work?

Regards

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

Yes, that will work. It warms up faster than the CL90, but it's better than nothing. Just monitor your B+ on power up - if you're less than 450VDC, it's less important.

Well Happy new year for all people.

First of all thanks Shannon and Geek for yours fast response.

Im found CL90 in amazon, little expensive ($6,21+shipping) but its OK.

Anyway Shannon Im a bit confused for your post. 450VDC for a 1626 Clementine?

I believe that the "450VDC" was a typographical error...

1626 Clementine / Darling should have 240-250 VDC B+, 25 to 27 mA plate current, I use 1K 2W cathode resistor and 100-470 uF, 50VDC cap, for each one.

450 VDC would send the 1625s into red plate oblivion. =:o :'(

For what it is worth, 12B4As can be used in the Clementine / Darling circuit, with no resistor value changes.
12B4A is a noval 9 pin miniature, so it cannot just be plugged into an existing Clem.
With 250VDC B+ and 1K cathode resistor, it also draws 25 to 27 mA, with a 5K OPT, it delivers 1.5W rms.

It would not be difficult to wire up a pair of octal to 9 pin adapters to make 12B4As work in the octal sockets.

One of my near-future projects will be to add the two 9 pin tube sockets to an existing Clementine,
or point to point Darling, and wire them up pin parallel with the 1626, and make it be convertible for either tube type.

Beautiful work! Did you design the pc board with the square pads, or is that a commercial product? Very cool

Thanks.
PC board It is totally hand made, comercial boards has the pads very close to each other I prefer more space between them.
By the way I have used Edcor XPWR068 that has two 6,3V and then the voltaje doubler it is not necesary and you can choose between 120 or 240V (Spain AC is 220-230V).

In response to EWBrown it is a very good idea the 12B4A with 1,5W I keep in mind...

Best regards.

Ooops! I meant 350V, or rather whatever the supply ratings of your caps are (to compensate for higher voltage before current draw).
Love the DIY PC board, btw.
