Another new Clementine

Here's my just-completed Clementine Darling. The outputs are Edcor GXSE 10-8-5K, the power transformer a Hammond 369EX. Most of the parts are re-purposed from a PTP-wired Darling I built that I could never get all the hum out of (yes, I know these things are supposed to be quiet-I missed something and gave up). I decided to go with purple-dyed veneer for the base...not to everyone's liking, I'm sure, but I like it, and it looks good next to the cherry veneered phono preamp I built a while back; the one from the RCA Receiving Tube Manual, which is supposed to be hummmmy, but mine is dead quiet--go figure.

One small item -- there was some hum in the Clem until I ran a wire from the board ground lug to the chassis ground, then it was nice and quiet.

Anyway the Clem sounds wonderful and all is well in the world. Thanks to Shannon for doing this, and to Tom McNally for his advice and wisdom on these puppies.

I, for one, like the purple. Also, you have a nice eye for detail - you must be a photographer. Good catch on the grounding scheme. I just recently posted on update on the forums on just that fix.

So what speakers do you have this paired up with? Enjoy!

Hi, Shannon. I'm using Fostex FE166En fullrange speakers. The combination sounds great!

Hi, Magnus-

It's 'Dyed Deep Purple Koto' veneer from this place (they have lots of interesting colors):

over 1/2" MDF, with three coats of gel varnish from this place:

Excellent work! I like how you took the time to paint the plate and the Edcor transformer bells. The color scheme works very nicely together. Is that a modified Bottlehead Seduction next to it?

Beautiful! Purple is my color and I really like the way that looks.

Love it!

Looks great!

I love that you've stepped out of the normal color range. The purple is very cool and perfect for that Koto veneer! Also, the color of the top is a perfect complement!

The whole thing has a very sophisticated, sleek look.

Nice workmanship on the wiring too!
