I ordered 10 watt GXSE 5k trans formers $23 each... a super bargin and at 3/4watt output should have no sateration.

The baby tube amp is all done... no checking and run right.
The amp is so cute. With myCornscalas they are full bodied and fantastic.
I called Edcor seeing if I could order some XSE tansformers and was told of these odd balls... they are XSEs but with wires attached... sale price $15... could knock it!
The hammond power transformer was wired for 120 not 115... just some ins.

That's a wise choice.

Hammonds run hot by nature and I dunno about your power grid, but mine floats around 126V at everytime except dinner or during a heatwave

Im really not sure. At home I use a power conditioner... so ~120v is the norm. My office is a state facility in a rundown building, in a rundown area of los angeles. The Hammond lets you wire for 120v.

I ran it for 3 hours and didnt get hot at all... kinda nice :-).
My Triode electronics St35 gets too hot to touch though.

I built a Darling amp a couple of years ago and had to add a bucking transformer to get the PT in line. We typically run 124-126V at the mains here as well and it was making that old Hammond really hot and my voltages were way high. The bucking trafo knocked the voltages back in line and the PT was being fed 106-110V instead. Made a world of difference.

Using some small bookslefs... realy sweat sounding, much better with my big cornscalas... more headroom.

I've just about hooked up my Darling to my Klipsch, too. Curious to see what 3/4W can do with horns.

Love the volume knob, btw. Bakelite knobs rule.

Darling Clementine on the 102 dB Klipsch Chorus can very nearly rock the house. On my friend's 92 dB Paradigm Mini Monitors, you run out of power in a hurry.

The 1626 ran out of steem quickly with my bookshelfs, but was spot on with the cornscala's and heresys.

Slightly off topic, but Thermion and I ran the Clementine Ultra on his B&W 802s this weekend with zero clipping. It sounded wonderful! A Mickey Hart test CD (Planet Drum) really hit all the bass frequencies and shook the house.
