diy*tube clementine project (discontinued)

sweet & juicy SE amp for 1626 Darlings and the 6L6 family

Postby EWBrown » Fri Nov 11, 2011 9:01 am

Pins 1 and 8 can be jumpered together for V2 and V3, this would make the PC board compatible with EL34s / 6CA7s and some other more "modern" BPTs.

On the old style metal shell 6L6s (and 6V6s) , the shell is connected to pin 1, with the glass tubes, pin 1 not used.

The FPE file for the Clementine is finished. Check your email Shannon, let me know what you think. The IEC jack behind the PT is the one thats sold at Parts Express. The switch is the same used on the GSG, as well as the fuse holder. Theyre all in a row behind the PT. The OPT holes are for the Edcor GXSE series, and the PT holes are your standard PA774.

Looks great, Bob! I just printed out a 1:1 and the Clementine fits perfectly. I've upped the file here:

Hello, I recently ordered the PCB and the BOM from Mouser for the Clementine amp. The Mouser order came in three days but sofar no PCB. I came across the comments on the coupling cap voltage and I will use some of my K40Y9 Russian PIO caps. They are rated 400v and so are the ones in my KT88 Oddblocks. I can see no danger here. The 2 Orange Dip film caps that came in the Mouser order are 600 volt and are really large in diameter--over one inch in diameter. I`ll save them for my KT 120 Oddblock power supply. Robert Parsh :))

Sounds cool, Robert! Those Russian caps are pretty special. I did ship out the Clementine last week, so it will probably arrive today. I think the USPS was quite overloaded due to Christmas.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever thought of using an HY69 as the output tube in this circuit? One would have to supply 6 volts DC to the filament and alter the biasing since there is no cathode in that DHP.

Admittedly, the modification is beyond my current technical capability. However, if anyone can point me to a resource to accomplish such a feat, I would be interested in giving that circuit a try.

I am thinking if it would not be feasible to use the 1625.

I think it was a directly heated pentode intended for battery powered devices. So you'd have to use a whole new filament supply to keep the hum down. Probably much easier to use a 807 or 1625. The only prob with the 1625s was the lack of sockets, but now they're are plentiful of new ceramic ones from China on eBay.

Discontinued?!?!

Wow! I am out of the tube audio hobby for a few years and come back to find this amazing board is no longer available. Does someone else have something similar?
