Handwired Chubby KT-88 Clementine

Postby TomMcNally » Sat Sep 30, 2017 11:41 am

A friend designed this and I built it, turret boards and a nice aluminum top plate. All high end parts, sounds really good. I have a few more things to do. Woodworking is not my forte ! I was going to do a better sanding job but got a big splinter in my thumb that changed my mind. :'( I had to pull it out with pliers. The good thing is it worked first time. That hole in the front will get a pot eventually. The KT-88 socket screws need to be countersunk (easier said than done) No one but us can see the stain error in the back. lol

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

@TomMcNally did you glue & screw the box frame? If not, unscrew and flip around that front piece so the attenuator can mount on the preamp side (y) I'm a friend of Nick's and glad to see this amp finally built and in good hands... looks awesome! What speakers are you using with it?

Hi maxdd !

I'll take another look at it. I made a frame of aluminum channel and bolted the top plate top it, then screwed the channel to the wood. The plate is also upside down from the way the artist intended. Not sure how hard it would be to change at this point. The amp sounds great and Nick did a great job. I assume you helped ?

thanks

Those are Mundorf TubeCaps, 100 mfd at 550 volt. The designer of this amp (not me) went for the best of everything.
