Been working on a few of these at the shop. Including *ugh* rewiring the arms (hint: SCSI cable)

We had a rush (flea market?) of no-name-brand TT's requiring 12V, 150mA wallwart supplies for really, really cheap turntables.

Had a rush of Rega tables with owners wanting $1K+ cartridges.

Plinth, drive and platter of the Rega and the no-name-brand were close enough to have come out of the same factory! =:o :'(
(actually, the belt of the no-name-brand was easier to replace.... if the Rega is off 0.2mm, it caused a SIGNIFICANT speed error)

Just thought as a tech, I'd toss this out there.....

Geek, what scsi cable do you recommend for a arm rewire? Thanks.

We just went to the local computer shop for a handfull out of their recycling box. It's a rubberized insulation with really thin stranded wire that works out about 32 AWG. Really fexible.

Must be it, as I have to pull apart the strands.

Works out well, as they have all the colours - red, green, white, blue and black.

When you use those up and just have a pile of white, just use Sharpies of appropriate colour for the ends.

Cheers!

That actually sounds like it's a external cable. I wonder if I still have any around. The internal is a flat ribbon all white like a old IDE cable except more wires.

Sometimes mouse wire can be used, if it's flexible enough.

Lucked out one time... cheapest no-name-brand Chinese mouse I had, had similar cable in it and it was SILVER to boot! :))

The more expensive mice use a wire that's more like stiff wire-wrap wire and useless in a tonearm.
