Custom made tonearm. Golf Ball style. Well tempered inspired

I just got a taig mini lathe this year.
I thought this would be a good beginner project.

The tonearm is carbon fiber. All of the metal parts were turned on my lathe, everything.

Do yourself a favor, don't buy a mini metal lathe. It is just as addicting as audio (well almost).

My design has some differences, for one, it is a 12" arm....

Here is what the original looks like....

Nice work! I would love to do some mini machining and experiment with tonearms. In particular, I would make some extra heavy tonearm counterweights for my turntables to utilize heavy carts. It does look like a rabbit hole with no turning back, though. (lol)

My father-in-law has aSherline mill and lathe and started making fly reels a few years ago. Amazing what you can do with these:

I've seen them made from cherry, and I think Grado did one in walnut long ago.

I think I've seen ebony arm wands for some tonearm too.

I am having trouble finding the original catalyst for my interest in this project.
I will post as soon as I find it.

Lots of talent out there!

Wow!

I am truly "wow-ed" by not only the tonearm, but the fishing reels as well!

Nice work both of you craftsmen! Beautiful!
