where to buy vinyl?

Postby 77seriesIII » Tue Nov 01, 2011 1:26 pm

Ok, other than getting lucky at flea markets, boot sales, in the trash...where are folks buying new vinyl records? I see that amazon has a vinyl store, anyone used it?

thanks

You might want to check out the Princeton Record Exchange here in NJ.

where to buy vinyl

Go to GEMM (gemm.com)

A database for music. You can put in all sorts of filters and also link directly to a store if you want to see their stock. All stores have ratings etc. etc. I've bought from U.S. , France, Germany and the stuff is always as described. As they say, if you can't find it there, it doesn't exist.

Or, some of the small labels, directly. A couple examples:

Even better if you're looking for rare titles you can set up a wants list & get emails whenever a new item's added. I've been buying there for like ten years, started selling used records there recently. Love the site! I've got a few really great deals over the years.

I like that they process the payments, so buyers have to go through gemm to get refunds. They can keep track of the disputes way better, they'll know if they've got a problem seller, or a problem buyer.

I've got great help from their customer service every time too, how many of the huge sites can you say that about? I've personally had the ebay customer service HANG UP on me. (lol)

I live just east of nowhere, no record stores for me. I use amazon.com and have had mixed results with used vinyl, new vinyl is...well new so it's always good.

so I am reviving my old thread a bit...I can do that right? (lol)

I am going to be heading out to Minneapolis and then down to Rochester, MN in a few weeks - any suggestions from the crowd?

I don't know about where you live, but most used book stores in Canada carry vinyl.

Condition depends on how knowlegeable the owner/purchaser of the store is.

Cheers!

Online and in New York, Amoeba Music is pretty hard to beat, especially with their 15% off sales and free shipping. I think Soundgarden is likely the best place for new vinyl in Maryland, prices are very reasonable and they can special order anything currently being printed. Other than that, Elusive Disc and Music Direct have 10% off pretty frequently and pack their records very well.

Bawww :(

my local store, the owner of which I'm pals with, is listed and had a bunch of good stuff. I spent entirely too much money on vinyl this morning :)
