Just went through a bunch of the old vinyl threads. Interesting to say the least.

I recently sold my old Pioneer SX780 (a very nice example of ANALOG ss). The fella that was interested in it had just got back into vinyl. I told him the phono pre in the 780 was very nice. Then I realized I had not played the phono section in a long time. So I hooked up my Denon 128 (value, but with a nice Grado) just to make sure it still worked. Spun a Chuck Mangione and OMG! I had played that very same record a few weeks earlier thru my Sony HT (only thing I got with phono) what a stupendous difference, and the Sony had the much better speakers. Over time you just kinda forget how good ANALOG is [:) even ss ANALOG. That is definitely one reason why the FM station I listen to sounds as good as it does and somehow better than the other local stations even tho' it is totally under powered by comparison - the studio is very old tube ANALOG.

So, whadya spinnin now?

Reading your post is like a blast from the past. :$ I had an SX780 back in the day. It's been gone a long time. When I got it I had a BSR table with a cheapy At cart that cost about $20 retail. I thought it sounded GREAT. Well it's been 30 years and the system has been through many changes. Currently I have a Rega P3 w/ an AT440ml and all tube gear including a fully home brewed ST 70 (sort of) with Shannon's driver board.
Today I watched the NASCAR Cup race w/sound muted while I listened to: Ricky Lee Jones, Eagles and Steely Dan.

Even after the VW Bus played this album a few times, it
still sounds good on the Technics SL-1200 and the new
diytube Budgie phono preamp. (lol)

Crosby, Stills and Nash. Good stuff.

I also listened to some old Cat Stevens LPs tonight,
Tea For the Tillerman, Teaser and the Firecat
and Buddah and the Chocolate Box ...
Oh so scratchy, but it adds to the charm.
