This is a sad announcement indeed :-(

I wonder if the audiophool philosophy of "Belt drive, or crush it as junk!" had anything to do with that?

Given that Slashgear was unable to find any statement from Panasonic on this, I seriously doubt it. Audiophiles aside, the Technics 1200 is a mainstay for DJs. That'd be like Fender killing the Stratocaster.

That is a shocker.

That has to be one of the most durable turntables ever made.
Just ask every DJ since the beginning of time.

I hope they are planning on a similar, yet improved model!

I was just bragging about the 1200 the other day being among the longest lasting hifi items. I guess we have Klipschorns and Denon DL103s still. :)
