DIY Tonearm, Turntable

Postby Shannon Parks » Mon Nov 05, 2007 7:22 am

OK, so I want to make some Rube Goldberg machine, and a DIY table certainly fits the bill. I've basically got the motor part figured out - I'm going to use Altmanndesign for that, but will use an adjustable Wein oscillator and some 18W mono amps that you see using the Hitachi IC. The tonearm just came together this weekend. I've stripped the hapless Pioneer PL-10 and will use its gimble and counter weight, but will replace the shaft with a carbon arrow shaft. Any pointers to website that has some good tonearm theory - maybe with calculators for length, angle, etc?

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

Hey, I've actually changed steel needles before, while spinning 78's of 'Red Wing' while cranking the handle on a Victrola. That must've been a big hit song in the day, as we had at least three copies. All long gone, now.

And before steel needles (I used to have one of them, too) they used cactus spines. Good for about 3 plays if you had a good one...

As I recall, my Dad used to take some of my mom's sewing needles and cut them to the correct length, and they wworked just fine. At least as well as the oroginal groove cutters :o

Maybe that's where I got my unique ability to make good stuff outa (feces) these days Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_04 Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_16

If you guys want cactus spines, lemme know. There's a treacherous cactus that lashes out at me during my morning commute.
