Hello,
I've been looking at my old Thorens lately and been seeing some pretty good deals on cartridges and now I have the urge to build a good phono pre to mate with my ST35 clone. Can anybody recommend a good design?
Thanks

A lot of people are into the Hagerman Cornet ... he has kit options, or you could build your own.

I fired up my Technics SL-1200 recently, and realized what a pain in the neck records are, besides getting up and flipping or changing them every 20 minutes, the pops all over the room drove the cat nuts.

I'm sure everyone has their own opinions about what constitutes a "good design". My idea of a good design is usually something that is quick and easy to build with a minimum of tweaking.
Something like...

Thanks for the links...I was sort of looking for something I could build from scratch. I spotted this earlier :
Any thoughts?

That would work, but the output impedance is very high, you might want to take a look at the manual for the Cornet, it's basically a stage like what you show, with a cathode follower for a nice solid low output impedance. You can build it from his manual.

Try this:

I admit to being a huge Turner fan - his designs are spot on. His three tube design is better than Norman Koren's Dyna reworking, I think.
Plus there's a nifty jfet pre-preamp circuit in case you want to use a Denon DL-103 or the like.
