1 speaker, 2 amps

the weakest link we love so much

1 speaker, 2 amps

.....'nother dumb question: is it kosher to have only one set of speakers hooked up to multiple amps? of course i would only use one amp at a time !
just wondering how that affects resistance, and if any of the speaker signal would return back to the amps that are not in use.
my hunch is, "yes it is ok"

Speaker selector switch used as an amp selector - that's your friend ;)

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

I say nay, as I've cooked a couple amps that way.

When you think about it, you're putting a lot of stress on the B-E junction of the "off" amps power stage.

Unlikely such a connection would injure a MOSFET output type, though. With no bias, an enhancement type MOSFET naturally tri-states. BUT, if it's an older type that uses depletion FET's, you'll have a short on the speaker leads.

Cheers!

oh i was referring specifically to my st-35 and my rh-84. no FETs of any kind there.
i'll use a switch, it's simple enough- its just that i can (easily) imagine to forget to throw the switch to the correct position, then walk away for 15 minutes and leave the amp on a shorted output

thanks
