K-77 Tweeter Diaphragms

Postby antiquekid3 » Wed Jun 02, 2010 12:11 pm

Does anyone have any of these to sell? Everywhere I have looked, they are backordered. I would prefer to get two, but if you just have one, I'd take it. I just got a pair of Klipsch Heresy speakers and one of the tweeters was shot.

If you also happen to have a reconing kit for the K-22EF, that'd be great too!

Thanks!

Who's that guy who sells titanium diaphragms and upgrade crossover kits for the Klipsch series? Was it Crites?

"It's a different experience; the noise occlusion, crisp, clear sound, and defined powerful bass. Strong bass does not corrupt the higher frequencies, giving a very different overall feel of the sound, one that is, in my opinion, quite unique."

Yeah, Crites is out of the diaphragms. I want to replace the diaphragms with the new ones with beryllium-copper leads. I don't think the titanium diaphragms will fit in the K-77 tweeter.

Mark, how much would you sell your K-77 for?

Thanks guys!

Yeah, mine has a round Alnico magnet. I would love to find just the diaphragm, but if you can give me a good price, I might take it! :-)

Thanks!

Heresy K77

Postby jeff.hazlett@sbcglobal.ne » Wed Apr 06, 2011 8:34 am

I replaced my Heresy K-77s with Crites CT125 and then moded the crossover from 6000k down to 4500K WOW what a difference. I can send you the schematic if your interested.

I did a similar mod to my Khorns as well. I couldn't be happier with the resulting sound on the upper/mids, very smooth

I saw these on eBay but I wasn't brave enough to try them.

Search for K77, The seller is midwestspeaker.

I would be interested in seeing your mod Jeff if you want to share. What did you notice in the change?

4500 Mod for Heresy's

Postby jeff.hazlett@sbcglobal.ne » Sun Apr 17, 2011 3:00 pm

Remember you can only do this mod if you have replaced the K77's. I use the CT-125"s.

Move the midrange down one tap on the autotransformer that is, from tap 2 to tap 1. That would decrease it's output by 3db. Then to get the crossover point back right, you would need to change the 2uf cap going to the autotransformer to a 1 uF cap.

*I found the lowering on the squawker DB output to be unnecessary after lowering the crossover from 6000K to 4500K. You be the judge. *

To lower the cross over to 4500K:
Put a 160uH inductor in series with the squawker to roll it off. And a 4uF cap for the tweeter to lower it's crossover frequency.

I found this mod to give a much smother midrange. I also found on certain recordings the squawker would almost "honk" at higher midrange vocals, that is GONE!! I got this mod from Bob Crites and I thank him very much.

Did anyone doing this modification happen to run pink noise and hook up an analyzer up to see the outcome? Modifications like this aren't tweeked by ear in my opinion.

Jeff,

I would like the schematic for this 4500K change. I would like to know where you got the inductors too. I can only find this value in a few places and some are too expensive and the cheapest comes from Holland.

Thanks
