Nice. I like the accordion paper surrounds. They've got a better chance of lasting forever than anything else I've seen.
"It's a different experience; the noise occlusion, crisp, clear sound, and defined powerful bass. Strong bass does not corrupt the higher frequencies, giving a very different overall feel of the sound, one that is, in my opinion, quite unique."

i put the minimum bid on em, as if i can afford any more crap around here. i figure the scrap metal in those frames alone will pay for it (lol)
i did search a bit on the sp12, and most of my hits found ancient stamped-frame alnico coaxial models...

EV SP12 Aristocrat

Postby green heron » Thu Mar 18, 2010 2:21 pm

Those drivers appear to be a late version of the Electro-Voice SP12b. They have slightly different specs than the SP12, which was available in a chrome basket (earlier version) or in white (later version). I built a pair of EV Aristocrats for a pair of EV 12TRXb two-way drivers. I upgraded the drivers to the 12TRX, and then upgraded again to a 3-way (SP12, T25, and JBL 2404H). If you build Aristocrats (plans available online), I suggest you place the tweeter on top of the speaker unless you ears are located on your knees.

I posted a picture of my Aristocrats here:

Beautiful work. I wish you lived closer, Heron. I'd like to get those tractrix horns on the bench for some frequency response measurement. Oh yeah, and to listen to some tunes through 'em..
