DIY Sub for full rangers

Postby coop402 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 10:25 pm

I have built a set of speakers based on the Nirvana Super 8's full range speakers. I like the sound, but alas, not much bass.

I will be running a small singles ended amp (think Darling, or the like), but I would like a recommendation on a good DIY subwoofer project specific to the task of adding some low frequencies to my full range speakers. Money is always a concern! hahahah. But, what is the best bang for the buck.

Yes, they are very very green.
I think the commonsenseaudio.com Nirvana drivers are a really good value. I would like to afford some 12's and a big enclosure. There would be no bass problems then.

Nice work on the speakers.

Can't you just buy a sub cheap? I know there is beauty in making your own, but it might be more cost effective to buy one that is reputable. I have been using a refurbished Velodyne sub that I got on eBay under 200 bucks shipped and it's great been great when I watch movies through tubes.

If you're keen on DIY kits, I see that Madisound sells kits:

They are not cheap though.

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.
