La Scala Crossover Question

Postby SDS-PAGE » Wed Jun 10, 2009 4:08 pm

I am in the process of recapping the AA crossover in my La Scalas, and I am having a hard time finding 13 mfd oil caps. I can easily find 15 mfd. Is there a problem in using the 15 mfd caps in lieu of 12 mfd caps? Thanks,

I'd parallel smaller values to get what you need.

Min, are you looking for the motor run type oil capacitors or the more pricey PIO caps? Do they have to be oil? Will regular film/foil caps work?

I would use 1% Dayton film crossover caps.
I would parallel a Dayton 1% film 12 mf with a Dayton 1% 1.0 mf to get the 13 mf.
Mike's N-1 Rule: When looking for N number of components to finish a job, you have a 95% chance of only finding N-1 of them.

Mike,

No PIO, just motor run type oil cap. I actually ordered 12.5 mfd 330 vac ASC oil caps. It has 6% tolerance, so I am thinking it will come pretty close to 13 mfd.

Hopefully it comes in under 13 so you can parallel smaller caps to trim it to 13UF .
