I'm an older guy but I never had a Magnavox so I'm a little lost. Any help
would be appreciated!!
A magnavox stereo tube console I have has two speakers in each enclosure. One is a round 12 inch and the other is a horn with a 3 X 9 1/2 mouth and 9 1/2 long. Part number is: 580069 1,RP 109.C7486 2,220244.

What is this? a midrange/tweeter or just a tweeter? I am not so sure it is working... how can I safely test it?

Well curiosity was killing me so I checked it with an ohm meter and it is open.
Are these repairable, and if so are the worth the trouble?

The horn is a most likely a combined midrange/tweeter. Don't toss them just yet. It may be that there is a capacitor in series internally in the horn driver which would appear as an open to an ohm meter. As a quick test, connect some leads to a 9 volt battery and flick the wires against the horn terminals and listen for any scratching noises coming from the horn.
How are the 12 inch and the horn wired coming from the amp? Any capacitors or coils of wires nearby or in the wiring between the amp output and the speaker terminals?
Some horns are made so that they can be disassembled and the voice coils replaced. Are there any screws around the back end of the horn?

It did not respond to battery stimulus so I took it apart as follows:
1. Removed the rear dust cover by unscrewing 1 screw.
2. Removed the alnico magnet assembly by removing 2 screws.
3. Removed the diaphragm (fiberglass dome) assembly by
removing 3 screws entering from the front. This was the connection side
so I was careful.
The two wire connecting the dome to the input terminals were both broken.

If they were good to start with I would have broken them because the
apparent assembly method was to solder the wires sticking thru the input terminals last!!
But looking at the wire ends, under magnification, one of them looks like
it has melted ends.
Too bad !!. It looked interesting.

You might look through the replacement parts available at Parts-Express and see if any look like the diaphrams on your horns...or maybe a new horn entirely.

Hi Vince ,

Some of the manavox horns where ElectroVoice and some were Jensen .The EV version used the same diaphram voice coil as a T35 tweeter .The EV's used a metel cover and the Jensens use a plastic cover over the magnet struture .
