SRPP with 6SL7

Hi,

I'm new on this forum but I have built already built a few tube amp based on existing design.

I have slightly modified the GSG schematic to fit my need with is using the 12AV5GA as output tube and SS power supply.

I looked at the GSG schematic and I'm wondering if the 6SL7 has enough guts to drive the 12AV5GA properly. I have draw a schematic of my SRPP version but kinda wonder how to calculate the value to have the same load line as the original grounded cathode driver layout.

Could anyone help :))

TIA,
Isophon

Here's a handy free spreadsheet:

A couple of us have build stock get*set*go amps with the 6AV5GA and
they sound great - plenty of power. I used the 6AX5 rectifier also.

Thanks for your replies.

Since I'm not 100% certain I will install 2 x 6SL7 and 2 x 12AV5GA therefore I won't be stuck having to drill holes to install an extra 6SL7 once the amp is completed

A totem pole 6SL7 can drive an 845 without breaking a sweat:

A *AV5 will be a downright vaction for it.

Cheers!

Hi,

I have 3 different schematics and 1 layout. Could I please have some recommendations/comments...let me know if you see the 4 files.

Thanks for your help.

I built this up back in January, a 6AV5GA SET, with 12AT7 SRPP drivers. These could also use 5965s, 12AV7s, 6414s, 0528s, or 6072s, all easily interchangeable.

All the grim and gory ;) details of my build are posted here:

Since the SRPP tubes already have 12V filament capability, it would be a breeze to use 12AV5GAs - I have several of these whiich I recently bought off e-bay, and they are the same tube, except for the filament voltage.

6SL7s / 12SL7s should also work very well in SRPP, as would 5751s.

OPTs are 3K:8 10 watt Transcendars, though these are essentially made of unobtainium today, they are excellent. an equally good choice could be the One Electron UBT-3, or the James 6112 or 6113, using the 3.5K primary connection.

This amp really exceeded all my expectations, by a large degree [:)

Stepping back to an earlier version, the original 6AV5GA G*S*G:

Its predecessor is a modified G*S*G, which works well with the 6AX5 rectifier, and even better with a plug-in solid state rectifier "replacement" (built into an octal tube base, with two uF4007s, with a 50 ohm, 5W WW rsistor in series with each anode) which delivers higher B+ and lets the tubes reach their true sonic capabilities. Look here for your 3K OPT ;-)

Thanks for link, I will read one more time...

I was just wondering which would provide best overall sound for Blues or Jazz..the SRPP or CCS or the G*S*G

Thanks,
Isophon

IIRC he used to have a different e-bay seller name (ggaet), so I thought he just went "off the grid" . I also never thought of looking under ebay.ca (???)

Maybe I should hava simply searched for "transcendar". :/

D'Ohhhhh!!!!!! (where's a Homer Simpson smiley when I need one) :o)

I see that they also have available 5K SE, and 5K and 6.6K PP iron, now [:)

Thanks for all the great feedback.

I believe I will build the SRPP with 12AT7, I took the liberty to update SorenJ's schematics based on your mods found here http://diytube.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4576

Updated schematics which I will use (Thanks a lot too both of you) can be found here;
