Hi all -

I am finishing a g*s*g build when I realize that I don't know what volume control to add (???). I plan to use it with a large CD jukebox player so I will need one.

What specs would I need - including dissipation -- I doan know much about designing hifis. Thx.

You need a 100K Audio Taper (log) pot ...

I usually use these Alpha pots from Handmade Electronics,
but many supplier have them ... if you want to spend a little more,
get an Alps "Blue Velvet"

Thx Tom - a picture *is* worth ... figgered it had to be on the input.

Is that a 4-lead shielded cable you are using there from the input?? Is that old shielded telco wire that you used??

thx again!

Yep, it's a pretty simple hookup.
That wire is two conductor shielded, shield goes to both RCA jacks,
red to one/black to the other. That wire is actually half of shielded
"zip cord" we use in broadcast, where everything is balanced.
In this case, it's fine to use one side for both channels.
I don't think there is any danger of crosstalk!

As fair as cheap shielded cable...

On the new diytube Budgie phono and linestage I'm working on, I've been using CDROM audio cables. I always have several on hand (from keeping too much PC junk), and they are long enough to be extremely useful. Plus you can get them for like $1 if you don't have one. Or ask the IT guy at work. Heck, I've even used the same connector on the PCB so that wiring is a snap.

There's 313-2420F-100K $2.73 from Mouser, and then the similar one from Radio Shack you could pick up locally.
