Point to point GSG in a ST-70 chassis

Postby Quad » Thu Sep 03, 2009 10:25 am

I had a ST-70 chassis and a bunch of other parts
lying around.
Since I already made a PP amp, I wanted to try a SET.
I considered a few choices, and finally decided to try the
GSG in a point to point mode, my first attempt at PTP.

Shannon, I used the GSG circuit for this without
prior permission. Hope it is OK. Let me know.
Compliments on the design - it is clean, simple and
sounds great. It really lives up to it's name.

I used pieces of Bakelite sheet as a back plane.
The config - Transcendar 3K OPTs, Sovtek 6B4Gs, NOS
RCA 6AX5GT and a NOS Raytheon 6SL7. The PT is an
Antek AN-1T300.

The large coupling caps are made in India by El-Ci-Ar
and highly regarded by enthusiasts here, one of whom
gave me this pair. I made an extension shaft for the
pushbutton type power switch. The transformer leads are
not trimmed yet, so there are some long, coiled wires in
the pic. I wanted a removable power cord, so used one of
those 3 pin CB radio style connectors - had to drill out
the hole a little bit to fit this.

Looks good!

I started a similar project, but using 300Bs, and an SRPP driver stage.

I ran into a problem, in which the dual s 9 pin socket & turret boards from AES, which were allegedly a perfect fit for the PCB cutout on the ST-70, in fact was a very imperfect fit. :'( >:o :/

So I'll have to start over from square one with a new driver bboard design, trying to make tohe original one fit was an exercise in futility, the best I could do ended up looking quite crude. (sick)

The ill-fitting driver board is still perfectly functional, so it will "re-incarnate" into another yet to be started project. Waste not, want not...

Just another one of many partially completed projects in the queue... :/
