A nice Saturday afternoon project ... a get*set*go built in a black Hammond
12x8x3 chassis, with a Dynakit Parts PA-774 power transformer, Hammond
156R choke, and James 6112HS output transformers. I am using a pair of
Russian Winged-C NOS 6C4C/6B4G's.

Nice. You sure like 6B4G don't you. Never seen you put up any 45 or 10 / VT-25....

Sounds like a challenge to me, Tom! :))

The main reason for using 6B4Gs is that you can get new ones, as
well as NOS ... the price of a 45 is way out of sight, and having never
seen a VT-10, I checked on eBay and they are like $ 199 each ... woo !

A 6B4G is tha same "guts" as a 2A3 with a 6.3 volt filament and an
octal socket .... nice way to go.

I may try a get*set*go with 300Bs soon though.

I agreed with you 100% Tom on the price of 45. I think #10 tubes (or VT-25_ is roughly same price as #45. I once heard a Single Ended 10 amp years ago and that delicate high sound still in my mind vividly.

300B, more power - tubes are even more expensive than 45 or 10 and the sound is not much better than 2A3; though you probably already have some 300B laying around. Thanks.

Actually, I find 45s to be cheaper than NOS 2A3s. Check out AES or www.vacuumtubesinc.com. Ebay has some good deals periodically. I think you can find a pair for about 100 bucks.

It's hard to make the 300B sound good. There is a couple of designs that makes the 300B sing like the 2A3 but with more oomph.
