16 ohm tap

Postby Montobo » Tue Aug 04, 2009 10:53 am

How close/far from ideal would be a 15 ohm speaker on a 8 ohm tap?
I have a 15 ohm speaker (Lowther DX-3) that I want to build a GSG to match. Looking at the Transcendar 3k, 15W, the secondary output is 8 ohm. I could contact the company and discuss a custom-made with 16 ohm tap (maybe in addition to 8 ohm).

I am planning to use 300B tubes, by the way.

Any thoughts on this situation?

THANKS.

P.S. It's been sleepy around here.

16 ohms is the way to go ,you can get the custom transformer made or use an off the shelf like an Edcor.

I've had good results with the very inexpensive XSE series Edcors
with the get*set*go ... the sound great.

That really gives me a price alternative. Also Tom, I like the various builds on your website!

Thanks,
