I finished my GSG this weekend, pretty much as per the parts list accept auricaps and transendar opt.

Tubes are nos GE for the 6SL7 and 6AX5, Sylvania 6B4G

I have to say thanks to Shannon for such a great design, it really shines.

With only a few hours on it, it is sounding pretty good for tonality and speed, the sound stage is growing, bass is quite impressive.

Good to hear you got it going Ed ! Any pics ?

Did you use NOS "old" Sylvania 6B4G's , or the
new ones that are supposedly really 6AV5's ?
They have straight sides.

Hi Tom

I used use NOS "old" Sylvania, I just got two of ebay for cheep, till I figure out if I like the amp. So far look like it well worth the effort.

I have a hum in one channel that is fairly loud, it goes away once my preamp comes on...any thoughts?

Thanks
Ed

I don't know why you'd have a hum - I guess the best way to
troubleshoot it would be to put shorted RCA plugs in the amp
and see how it sounds, then work from there.
Is it a solid-state or tube preamp ? Some solid-state preamps
have relays that open the output or short to the amp until a
delay has passed to prevent "pops" .... could be something
odd going on there.

Found my noise in an interconnect at the pre out to the GSG amp :)

Everything is groovy!
