Help with My GetSetGo

Postby Aler » Sat May 31, 2008 4:22 pm

I am working on my GetSetGo and I need help with the value for the volume control. I have noticed there is no reference of the volume control in the manual. Is the any recommended value for it ?

here is a pictur of the amp.

It looks sweet! Congrats!
Use a 100K audio taper pot for volume control.

Aler, amp looks graet. How is it coming along?

Anyone care to comment on any stereo pots besides the standard Alps?

Nice Amp Aler!

I've used a Radio Shack 271-1732 stereo pot in most of my amps. It works great and costs about $3.50. You can order it online. I'm not sure about shipping or availability to Chile though.

Nice construction. I like the wooden chassis. I've ordered some wood chassis from Wellbourne labs for some monoblocks I want to build. He sent me the wood bases, but stiffed me on the metal plates and now won't answer several e-mails sent over a period of 4 months. Oh well.

Good luck with your build. It really looks good and you'll like the amp. Mine sounds great. I see you don't have the power transformer mounted yet. Are you having trouble getting it?

Mouser now sells the Alps blue velvet pot, $10.13 each. It's listed as a 12mm pot, don't know how they got that figure. Here is the part # 688-RK27112S20C0A104.

Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_12 Thanks for the potentiometer tips guys! It was on my to-do list to go to RS for the ALPS I'd heard about before.

Nice looking amp Aler!

Beautiful work!

Do be careful how you wire it up, though. I <really> hate to fuss with volume pots, but I'm sure those that have will give you some tips if any noise is added.

I am looking at this pec pot to replace my alps since I suspect some noise from the alps.

About the wooden chassis, I made it myself with a US$ 2 pine wood 3" by 1" piece.
About the Power transformer, yes my local power transformer supplier takes 3 weeks to build one (but they are very good quality)

Beautiful looking amplifier, Alejandro.

I'm looking at the photo attached to the first post in this thread. Does anyone know what kind of tube is in the rectifier socket? That sure doesn't look like a 6X5 to me.

First photo, Looks like a Russian 6L6GC equivalent is standing in for a 6AX5. The two tubes in teh 6B4G sockets are also different...

That's what I figured. I'll confess I've done the same myself in some of my photos.

i do wish my st-35 had a volume pot, so i could change/hook up sources after it is powered up, without the "death blast" through my poor speakers. does the volume pot address this issue? apologies if the subject has been visited before.
what type of wood is the chassis frame, alejandro? looks exotic to me, here in usa. cheers

edit: (oops nevermind; you said pine!)
