Thanks for the link Tom! You rock, my friend. I am still LOVING the diytube ST-35 you helped me get the kinks out of. What is your impression of the difference between the st-35 and the get*set*go? Thanks for keeping this fun! Peace. Robert

Hi Robert -

The ST-35 and g*s*g are really two different amps.
Push-Pull vs. Single Ended ... they both sound great,
but it's hard to compare a low powered SET amp with
a push-pull. With an SET, you need to think about
getting some nice efficient speakers, because you
only have a couple of watts.

It all depends on your taste in music too ... in my living
room, I typically play loud rock, the amp is PPP EL-34's
for about 95 watts per channel, into big Cerwin-Vega!
speakers. The bedroom system is usually an SET
like a 300B, get*set*go, Darling, etc into a pair of
fairly efficient Klipsch bookshelf speakers. Many people
find the SET amps to have a magical, charming sound,
and many think they sound like crap.

Let us know what you think when you finish yours up !

I built a 6B4G GSG (I need to specifiy which one) for a guy who compared it to his Sino PP KT-88 amp at 60+ wpc. He told me that the GSG sounds as loud, if not louder, as the PP amp. He's got a pair of 102 dB/W/m Infinities. His only complain with the GSG was that the bass wasn't tight enough at a higher volume. Don't know how loud he's listening to those amps. But, yes, like Tom mentioned, it will basically come down to your choice of music, listening space, and efficiency of your speakers. You might wanna consider SS-rectified 300B version of GSG. I got a cleaner bass with crisp mids and highs. Transcendars are nice sounding OPTs. I am yet to try their 15W OPTs. I would also like to try One Electron OPTs. -Min

Thanks for the replies!

I just ordered the board from Shannon. I have some Fostex bass reflex speakers that are pretty efficient that I built(94dB). This might be an excuse to delve into building some horns. This is all fun and games for me. It is easy to forget that all of this is really for enjoying music. Peace. Robert
