6AS7 GSG?

Postby sorenj07 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 5:49 pm

Hi, I'm just wondering whether anyone has thought about or tried using a 6AS7 instead of a 6B4G/6A3/2A3. The 6AS7 isn't directly-heated but it looks very cool. A whole bottle per channel could also put out some pretty serious power, around 7WPC right? Plate resistance would be ludicrously low but maybe something from Edcor's CXSE25 line might work? 1.25K to 8 ohms? One of my concerns is driving the low-mu tube but hey, it could be cool. Any thoughts?

OTL could be really cool. Offset the huge power supply requirements with no output transformers, offset your cold house with the space heaters they become Yellow_Light_Colorz_PDT_07 My mind is open though. If I stumbled upon a box of the 6S33S tubes complete with clamp-mounting teflon sockets (the regular ones burn out supposedly), I'd try my hand.

Here you go for reference:

One bad thing about these is their hefty filament requirement of 2.5A.

yeah but apparently they aren't incredibly linear.. I just like the look of the huge bottles. Feeding enough current to those suckers (I'm thinking 72mA per triode) would also be a major hassle, probably requiring monoblocks.
