I'll probably try a drive on Deal's Gap / tail of the dragon, thiis summer when I'm down there for a couple-three weeks. The other winding twisty road is US 64 between Hayesville and Brevard, some of that gets pretty "snaky", too.

I'll definitely go for one of the get*SET*go boards, myself...
Mulling whether to use the 6115HSs, a pair of MQ RH-60s or MQ TFA-204s... The MQs are pprogressively more costly (200/pair, 250/pair) and they have excellent reviews. "Magic Mike" does a great job with his ironworks.

Will any of the Hammond SE OPTS work witht the new board?

The James transformers are certainly better quality than the small Hammonds, like the 125SE series, and not that much more money.
But, you can use any SE transformer with a 3.5K primary, I have some
Hammond 125E's at home, I should try them and see what it sounds like.
The James have incredible bass response.

Thanks Tom....That's sort of what I was getting at. I have a pair of 125SEs that I'd like to use if possible and maybe save a few bucks. BTW, how do these compare with your Darling amps?

I started building this breadboard version at 5:00 PM .... it's about 7:30 now ... get*set*go with Sovtek tubes, Hammond 125E's, DynaClone PA-774 with Ned's cool nickel plated covers ... it sounds pretty darn good, I'm only on the second song, I normally like to warm them up for an hour or two, but I would say the Hammonds sound nice, good bass.

My Darlings vs. get*set*go ... The Darlings don't have as deep and solid bass as the get*set*go, and the Darlings, being only 3/4 of a watt, run out of power, no so much on music, but if you watch a movie that has a sudden burst of loud music or effects, the Darlings will punch a hole, where the get*set*go can deal with it better. Let's face it, low power SET amps are really for good speakers in small spaces, not "home theater" ...

Matt from Triode just emailed me details of a new 30W SE OPT they might be carrying: 1.25k primary rated @ 225mA with a 43% ultralinear tap. +/-1dB from 20hZ to 20kHz. Secondary has 4, 8, 16ohms. I'll test this along with the James outputs all at once - maybe even with the 6AV5s.

This is <possible>. But I was thinking a linestage would probably use a 6SN7 and be tweaked a bit different than the 6B4G design with 6SL7. For example, right now that 6SL7 is rigged up for tons of gain, and we have the 6B4G with a 475k grid resistor. With a 6SN7 we'd focus more on a lower output impedance. Maybe even play with a 6BX7 and 6BL7.

That 1.25K 30W SE OPT will probably be at least as large and heavy as the Hammond 1627SE series... Given the primary Z and the current handling, sounds like a good candidate for 2-4) parallel tubes, or even 6C41C or 6C33Cs.

For a linestage, a lower-mu 6SN7 would be a better choice (unless you really need the extra gain) , just re-calculate the cathode and plate resistors as needed. In that case, use one filament winding for the 6AX5, and the other (rectified, if desired) for the VA tube. Actually, a 6X5 can be used here, it has the same pinout, and a linestage doesn't need the extra current capability. Save a buck or two...

With a litle design creativity, a nice 2W SET monoblock could be fitted on the board, using a 6EM7 or 6DN7, and a little "poetic license". Shades of the "Original Sin", Bottlehead's first "SEX" amp of about ten years ago.
