Is there something that can be done to soften the insulation again? I got a pair of intact MKII amps for a crazy price, but they need cosmetic attention. I took one apart already, but the leads are all super crackly sounding when I flex them.

I had some cloth wires. Not original colors, but I made a chart. It's pretty scary opening up the transformer like that.

You can always get long thin shrink tubing and cover them .

I ended up cutting into the transformer and replacing the leads.

I do have a question. In the poseidon schematic, the VA stage feeds the 12 AU7 through pin 7. Pin 2 is grounded. Can I reverse those? I see no reason I can't, but I figure is ask. It would just work better for my layout to use 2 as a tie in for the coupling cap.

Reversing the input pins 2 and 7 would also reverse the phase, so the LTPI's output leads to the power tubes' control grids would also have to be swapped, in order to prevent the NFB from becoming positive feedback, and turning the amplifier into a power oscillator.

I figured as much. Now, I want to rewire the other one because it made the layout better.

Heat up the cloth leads with a heat gun or hair dryer and they usually get real flexible. Heat again when you reassemble and they will stay put after they cool down. HTH!
