Using a 12BZ7 with the Tubezone Poseidon

Postby rgurney » Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:58 am

Has anyone tried using a 12BZ7 (instead of a 5751 or 12AX7) with the 12BH7 in the Tubezone Poseidon board? Thanks.

The 12BZ7 has the same amplification factor (mu = 100) as a 12AX7, but the plate resistance is half, and the transconductance is double those of a 12AX7, so the cathode and plate resistors may have to be "tweeked" to get the best performance. 12BZ7s can tend to be somewhat noisy, as well, so YMMV, etc...

Just hink of each section of a 12BZ7 as being equivalent to two 12AX7 sections connected in parallel.

It won't do any harm to just try it out first, and evaluate the results.
