Voltages on Ned's Tubezone version of the Poseidon

Postby EdStiles » Mon Mar 12, 2007 8:53 pm

Built out a pair of Mark 2 chassis with Poseidon boards but converted them to Ned's Tubezone version because I wanted to use NOS 5751s and 12BH7s. (Have SDS cap boards, 5AR4 and C354 installed)

On the 5751 I'm getting 165v on Pin 1, Shannon's voltage chart shows 196v and 1.44 v on Pin 3, Shannon shows 1.26v

Likewise, the 12BH7 getting 290v on Pin 1, Shannon shows 219v; Pins 3/8 have 14v, Shannon shows 10v

B+ is 517, "C" lug is 451v, "D" lug is 362v

It sounds almost too crisp... very Audio Research like, was wondering if these voltages look right to those of you who play with these things.

Am also wondering if NOS 5751s and 12BH7s might require slightly different resistor values? Ned supplies his kits with Russian tubes.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ed

Hi Ed,

I looked all this over and the voltages and mods/values are all in line. The extra B+ gives it that much more headroom and is due to 21st century US AC mains. The difference at the 12BH7 plates is fine - I lowered mine just to be 'legal' with the max plate V on 12AU7s. Anyhow, don't hesitate to tube roll.

If using an original quad cap, you might want to make sure it is reformed, though. You could remove the tubes, add a couple diodes and a 100k in series to the cap (all sections).
