subbing tube rectification for ss

Has anyone used a rectifier tube instead of SS rectification in their ST-35? I suppose you would need a higher rated PT to handle the added voltage drop, and need to keep the first cap under 50uF, but other than that, is it worth it?

You'll have voltage drop, so use something with the lowest. GZ34, EZ81, etc. and use a seperate filament tranny.

There doesn't seem to be too much voltage drop with the GZ34, so maybe it could be used with the existing 330-0-330 PT.
B+ will be lower but maybe that's a good thing. Bias will need to be reset though.

Agreed.
Hafler had a habit of ramping things to "110%" with Dynaco. Sounded good, met specs, 70C. transformers were the norm and ate tubes like cereal
