If I made an adapter; can I use a 6n2p-ev in place of the 12AX7A? At the moment I'm using a Raytheon 5751 (1960) which has a gain of 70 (instead of 100 for a 12AX7).

It draws double the heater current at 6.3V than a 12AX7, if your transformer can handle that plugging in the 6N2P won't hurt anything.
6N2P, 12AX7, 5751 is one of the most common "tube rolls" in gear.
Makes me as a tech shudder, but all that matters is sound, right?
Cheers!

Thanks. I'll try to do a little pcb like this, I just need to find the same kind of golden pins...
I think my Trafomatic transformer is rated at 5A (maybe 6A, I can't found my original quote) on the 6.3V windings.

Yes, the 6N2P will sound great, especially if you have the -EV version. The heater is the only thing that needs rewiring as it takes 6.3v at pins 4 & 5.
I have a PAS-3X that I put 6N2P-EV in all four places, to me it sounds every bit as good as the original Telefunkens !

Do you think it'll be OK if I connect pin 9 to my chassis which is bolt to the safety earth. I don't have access to the PCB circuit ground from the aluminium top plate (that's the "chassis").

...could someone review this little PCB please? (this is the bottom side) ...$3.40 for 3 boards with OSH Park! Otherwise what type of connector/solder crimp/etc, can I use to wire the ground connection; this will be sandwich between the PCB and the tube socket.
