Power Switch wiring

Postby adinoto » Wed Apr 16, 2014 2:37 pm

Hi folks,

I'm building ST35 using EDCOR double primary winding power trans (2 X 120V). It will wired in series to get 240V input.
Question is : could I connect power switch between the windings, ie. ac in (live)-fuse-winding1-switch-winding2-ac in (neutral).
Would this OK and acceptably safe?
I want to wire this way because it's simpler in execution

Thanks in advace

Hi,

Dangerous and bad practise. An inductor on both sides of the switch will kill it in short order. Also is unsafe as the lines are always connected to the transformer, even if the switch is open.

Safe practise is:

Line Hot --> Fuse --> Switch (with an X2-type cap across it) --> Transformer --> Line Neutral.

Cheers!

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.
