Accidently ran tube amp w/o speaker

Postby coolhandjjl » Sat Oct 26, 2013 12:34 pm

Like the topic reads, I accidently ran my Dynaco ST 35 (with the EFB board) with only one speaker attached. I was initially worried that I wrecked it, but it works fine. Even though it is rebuilt, it still has its original transformers. Perhaps this is a testament to that vintage iron? ;)

That happened with me as well when I had some friends over for an audio gathering and we were comparing my Stereo 35 with EFB against a Conrad Johnson MV75A1 amp. My initial reaction was one of panic and I immediately powered off the Dynakit Stereo 35. Once I connected the other speaker and turned it back on, the amp was fine. In fact, my friends all preferred the Dynakit amp over the higher-powered CJ amp.
