ST35 Rev E - Docs & Mods (discontinued)

Postby Shannon Parks » Mon Aug 12, 2013 12:34 pm

It's been *ten years* since I first released my PCB version of the classic Dynaco ST35 tube amp. Where has all the time gone?

What's New:
- Zener power tube biasing mod available (greatly reduces self biasing losses)
- Screen and grid stoppers on the EL84s (big help for the EFB modders)
- Updated Front Panel Express top plates using the Dynaco-type trannies and Edcors
- Full revision to the parts lists and manual

What's the Same:
- The sweet, 3D EL84 push-pull sound is unchanged
- The dimensions of the board are the same, so you can replace a Rev C or Rev D build easily as a drop-in replacement

Manual:
diytube ST35 Rev E manual (with schematics, parts list & cut-n-paste BOM)

Frontpanels:
http://www.diytube.com/st35/frontpanels.zip
Uses Front Panels Express 4.2 software. There are four panels - the two with outlines are only to make sure there is room for everything. One uses the Dynaco trannies and one uses Edcors.

Mods:

Hi Shannon,

Do you intend to restock the ST35 PCB? I am also interested in the Clementine if you will be restocking that PCB.

I finished a build up your board as part of the Triode Electronics kit last fall with very good results. I really like the form factor utilizing edge connectors rather than soldering to sockets and terminal strips. Makes future work, if needed, so much cleaner.

I would like to try some of the mods and tube rectification on another unit.

Kind of makes it like the old days when kits were a much larger part of the audio hobby. As you already know it is so satisfying to complete a project and sit back and enjoy listening to the product of your work.

Thanks to you (and your collaborators) efforts and contributions to this hobby in designing and perfecting products that allow hobbyists to easily build up proven, reliable and affordable quality audio components.

Sincerely,

Steven Parry
