recommend me a good interconnect

recommend me a good interconnect

Postby grendel » Sat Aug 11, 2012 10:52 am

Hi everyone,

Since a few weeks I am the proud owner of a Dynaco PAS2 and ST-35. I have been wanting this combo for a few years and finally the moment was there for me. Both amps have been serviced by someone who has been working with tube amps for over 40 years, so that is in good hands.
I use a Van Der Hul D103 MKII interconnect between the two, cause I had one laying around. Somehow I am not happy with this setup, I think the Van Der Hul doesn't give my beloved Dynaco combo the magic it deserves. I am very interested to know what you guys use in your setups, maybe you can give me some tips I could work with.

Thanx in advance.

Grendel.

<AudioAtheist>

Have you tried RG8 mini-foam and Rean (Neutrik) connectors from Parts Express?

Should run you about $10 and will blow away $500 cables in a blind listening test (proven).

Fine wine comes in glass bottles, not plastic sacks. Therefore the finer electrons are also found in glass bottles.

My fave's are a set of cables that came with a CD player that's long gone. They have red and white grippers. (ends)
Headed for Tishomingo to sing in a can...

I roll my own using either Kimber Kable TC wire (you can also buy these as PBJ or Timbre or the even cheaper Tonic) or Homegrownaudio.com silver and/or copper wire.

I recently picked up some Kimber 4TC speaker wire on clearance from Audio Advisor. I cut it down into 2 6' speaker cable runs which left me about 6' left. Since 4TC is comprised of 8 wires, I simply unbraided it, measured and cut it up and then rebraided them into several 1m 3-wire interconnects and terminated them with Radio Shack RCAs.

Super easy and they sound great. I'll see if I can dig up a pic.

Here's a pic of the interconnects I made.

I also made a 3-wire braid for my AKG-702 headphones. Yeah, it's only 1m which isn't a lot but it was an experiment to see if it would sound better than the stock cable. Yes, it does. Vastly improves bass and separation of details in the AKGs.
