If you only need a passive volume control with remote control, you can look at my project here http://diytube.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=520. If you want to use it as an external preamp you can leave out the components for switching on the ST35 transformer. You could also left away the display if it is too expensive or you don't like it.

For my Ike project, i plan a modified version with 128x64 LCD (cheaper) and source selector with relays. Perhaps balance.
