ST35 Mods

Postby Richard » Thu Oct 14, 2004 12:39 pm

I finished my ST35 a couple of weeks ago and it’s working fine and sounding great. I built it completely stock, with Hammond transformers and EI tubes. Aside from the RCA’s and the binding posts, what kind of upgrades are people doing? And how do the EI tubes compare to some of the others?
Thanks
Richard

WIMA caps (the little red blocks)

The next upgrade is to replace the orange drop coupling caps with WIMA
.15 uF 630V caps, these fit the board precisely (available at AES for about $1.25 each) or go the full montie and go for Auricaps (about $8 each at AES). Orange drops are very good, WIMAs better, the Auricaps are for teh "golden ear" crowd, and Magnequest OPTs will bring out the full potential.
